Enjoy and Here We Go!!

40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS (BLURAY)

Terrible fucking movie.  I remember seeing this when this came out in theaters and thinking, “Well that was an interesting attempt at comedy”.  Fucking Fail.  I mean Josh Hartnett literally and metaphorically gets covered in cum in the film which may not be the worst thing, but still ruins my day like Schindler’s List ruins my day.  Add to that a really awful video transfer.  It’s like they took the DVD version and just copied it on a DVD disc and put the bluray stamp on it.  Although, the sound is pretty swell.  But it is mostly dialogue driven with no action beats.  If you want to stab your eyes out with a letter opener, watch this movie first.  It gives the same effect.

EXTRAS

  • Audio commentary from director Michael Lehmann, producer Michael London, and screenwriter Robert Perez

  • THE CAINE MUTINY (BLURAY)

One of the best Bogart films of all time.  Such a great gem of a film.  Glad to have this in HI-DEF.  “When a US Naval captain shows signs of mental instability that jeopardizes the ship, the first officer relieves him of command and faces court martial for mutiny.”  The cast and crew make this film deeply entertaining and wonderful.  Must own.

    DRESSED TO KILL (BLURAY)

Let me just go on the record here and say the Angie Dickenson maybe one of the hottest actresses and coolest people on the planet besides Tom Waits.  Brian De Palma is known for Scarface, but this little film ‘Dressed to Kill’ I almost prefer to Scarface.  Such an amazing film.  “A mysterious, tall, blonde woman, wearing sunglasses murders one of a psychiatrist’s patients, and now she’s after the prostitute who witnessed it.”  A must own film.  Get it.

  • EVERYTHING MUST GO (BLURAY)

Such an excellent film.  Not your typical Will Ferrell comedy film.  Don’t expect to laugh all the way through this one.  This is a very sad and emotional film.  Don’t get me wrong, there is some comedy riddled throughout, but man does this movie just punch your emotion vein with a brass knuckle several times.  Will Ferre’l is truly an amazing actor.  “Adapted and directed by Dan Rush, and based on a short story by Raymond Carver, Everything Must Go tells the story of Nick (Will Ferrell) a career salesman whose days of being on top are long gone. The same day Nick gets fired, for falling off the wagon one last time, he returns home to discover his wife has left him, changed the locks on their suburban home and dumped all his possessions out on the front yard. Faced with his life imploding, Nick puts it all on the line – or more properly, on the lawn – reluctantly holding a yard sale that becomes a unique strategy for survival. — (C) Roadside Attractions”  Definitely purchase.

  • HANNA (BLURAY+DIGITAL COPY)

This movie fucking owns.  “Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) is 16 years old. She is bright, inquisitive, and a devoted daughter. Uniquely, she has the strength, the stamina, and the smarts of a soldier; these come from being raised by her widowed father Erik (Eric Bana), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of North Finland. Erik has taught Hanna to hunt, put her through extreme self-defense workouts, and home-schooled her with only an encyclopedia and a book of fairy tales. Hanna has been living a life unlike any other teenager; her upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. But out in the world there is unfinished business for Hanna’s family, and it is with a combination of pride and apprehension that Erik realizes his daughter can no longer be held back. — (C) Focus Features”  After watchign this movie, you will want a trilogy of this character.  Seriously.  AWESOME movie.  Do it.

  • HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II (BLURAY)

Damn this movie is awesome.  It really kicks the first film to eleven and just goes all out.  “ In 1988, it emerged as the shocking follow-up to the film that redefined the face of horror. Two decades later, it remains the most brutally original sequel in horror film history. Clare Higgins, Ashley Laurence and Kenneth Cranham co-star in this hit sequel from executive producer Clive Barker that experiences the flesh like no other. The time to play has come again: Surrender yourself to the infernal labyrinth of HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II.”  It’s just as good as Evil Dead II was to the first one.  Kick-Ass movie.  Can’t wait to add this to the watch list in October.  Must own.

THE HILLS HAVE EYES: 1977 (BLURAY)

The original hardcore horror nightmare from Wes Craven.  “On the way to California, a family has the misfortune to have their car break down in an area closed to the public, and inhabited by violent savages ready to attack.”  This movie is so amazing and fucked up every level.  Once upon a time when Wes Craven made decent films.  I wish he would go back to stuff like this.  Great to have this in hi-def.  Must purchase.

  • A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE (BLURAY)

A surprisingly deeply disturbing little film that was missed by most.  “In the film directed by award-winning director Adam Wingard (Pop Skull), notorious serial killer Garrick Turrell (AJ Bowen, House of the Devil, Hatchet II) has just escaped police custody and resumed his killing spree. His former girlfriend and recovering alcoholic Sarah (Amy Seimetz, Alexander the Last) has recently moved to a small Midwestern town and is trying to put her life back together. She regularly attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, where she meets fellow addict Kevin (Joe Swanberg). Kevin is romantically interested in Sarah, but she remains withdrawn: her past continues to haunt her and may soon catch up with her, as Garrick is leaving a trail of bodies in his hunt to find her…”  This might be at the top of some of the best serial killer films.  Definitely worth seeing and getting.

  • THE OFFICE SEASON 7 (BLURAY)

The final season of The Office with Michael Scott as the boss.  While not as some of the best episodes of the series, still , it was a powerful and very funny season.  Add to that some of the more emotional episodes in this season.  We all have become a part of the Office family over the years.  Sad to see Michael Scott go, but looking forward to James Spader’s new character.  For any fan of the show, you definitely need to pick this up.

  • SCARFACE: 1983 (BLURAY+DIGITAL COPY)

One of the top characters Al Pacino played in his career. Not his best, but almost there.  He is just bat shit crazy in this film.  And that accent.  Everybody has payed homage to his accent and dialogue.  What an iconic film.  That being said, I still don’t get why so many people think this is the best film.  It really isn’t. I personally think the original 1930’s Scarface is way better than the 1980’s version, which is included in this release.  The bluray looks stunning .  Definitely worth getting, but I still don;t get why so many people just utterly love this film.  “In the spring of 1980, the Mariel boatlift brought thousands of Cuban refugees to the sun-washed avenues of Miami in search of the American dream. From acclaimed director Brian DePalma, Scarface is the rags-to-riches story of Tony Montana (Al Pacino), who finds wealth, power and passion beyond his wildest dreams…at a price he never imagined. Tony Montana’s meteoric rise, lavish life and soul-destroying fall anchor an epic film that inspired a worldwide following. Pacino is at his most memorable as Montana, blasting his way to the top of Miami’s drug underworld in a bravura performance”  There is a limited edition of this release that comes with a cigar humidor.  It’s very expensive.  $700 expensive.

  • STRAW DOGS (BLURAY)

I see they are releasing this just in time for the remake to hit theaters.  A barebones release.  The criterion version is awesome and I will definitely be keeping that copy.  This crazy film is so brutal and amazing.  “Sam Peckinpah examines the instinctual capacity for violence in his controversial 1971 film, loosely based on the novel The Siege of Trencher’s Farm. To avoid the Vietnam-era social chaos in the U.S., American mathematician David Sumner (Dustin Hoffman) moves with his British wife, Amy (Susan George), to the isolated Cornish town where she grew up, but their presence provokes antagonism among the village’s men. As the hostilities escalate from routine bullying to the gang rape of his wife, David finds his pacifistic self backed into a corner. When the hooligans attack his house, David finally resorts to the gruesome violence that he abhors. ~ Lucia Bozzola, Rovi”  I hope Criterion gets the rights again to release this on bluray on their label.  MUST OWN.  A violent fucking movie.  Hoffman is so amazing.
