BAMBI II (BLURAY+DVD)

Not the best direct to video release from Disney, not a bad one either.  “The events in the direct-to-video Bambi II transpire during the middle portion of the original film, after Bambi’s mother dies but before he grows into an adult. The film concerns Bambi being raised by his father, The Great Prince. Bambi learns his place in the forest thanks to his father and with the help of his friends like Thumper. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi”  Disney did a really great job with this release.  Everything looks great.  Tons of extras and is a great addition to your Disney collection.

    THE BEAVER (BLURAY)

Great film.  Mel Gibson is excellent in this movie.  He maybe a little crazy in his personal life, but he is still a terrific actor.  And of course Jodi Foster is amazing in which she directed the film as well.  “Jodie Foster directs and co-stars with Mel Gibson in The Beaver – an emotional story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. Plagued by his own demons, Walter Black was once a successful toy executive and family man who now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, Walter can’t seem to get himself back on track…until a beaver hand puppet enters his life. — (C) Summit”  Must see.

But have you ever wondered what goes on behind closed doors at some of the biggest advertising agencies in the world? In this eye-opening documentary, viewers follow Spurlock as he convinces a variety of high-profile sponsors to let him pitch their products as “The Greatest,” while still maintaining complete control over his creative vision — an arrangement that’s become increasingly rare in the high-stakes entertainment industry. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi”

  • ROUNDERS (BLURAY)

Such a great and entertaining film about poker and gambling.  Starring Matt Damon, Edward Norton, John Turturro, and John Malkovich.  “John Dahl directed this exploration of New York private clubs devoted to high-stakes poker, with first-person narration from the film’s central figure, law student Mike McDermott (Matt Damon), who loses his entire savings to Russian club owner Teddy KGB (John Malkovich). Mike then turns away from cards, devoting his attentions to his law studies and his live-in girlfriend Jo (Gretchen Mol), who’s concerned when Mike’s former gambling buddy Worm (Edward Norton) is released from prison. She has good reason to worry, since it takes Worm only a matter of minutes to draw Mike back into poker action. When she learns Mike has returned to the poker clubs, she moves out, and Mike begins to lose interest in his studies. Worm has a pre-prison debt, and the threatening Grama (Michael Rispoli) wants the money. Mike not only indulges the irresponsible Worm, he gets involved in Worm’s debts. When Grama demands $15,000 on a five-day deadline, the two buddies go into high gear with a non-stop, no-sleep gambling binge that spirals downward toward an ultimate confrontation with Teddy KGB.”  A must buy.

  • SECRET SUNSHINE (BLURAY CRITERION COLLECTION)

Once again, Criterion knocks it out of the park with ‘Secret Sunshine’.  “In this somber Korean drama, a young mother and widow, Shin-ae, moves with her young son, Jun, from Seoul to a small town called Miryang following her husband’s death. Having given up on her career as a concert pianist when she married her husband, she starts up a piano school, but soon it begins to feel like the polite people who inhabit her new home aren’t as friendly as they seem on the surface. Judgmental whispers and disapproving gossip begin to reach Shin-ae’s ears, and pressure to join the Christian cult that thrives in the town begins to mount. She’s hesitant until an unimaginable tragedy alters her life forever, setting Shin-ae on a dark path of withdrawal from society as a whole. ~ Cammila Albertson, Rovi”  Must see and own.  Criterion rocks.  Some great extras.

    SWINGERS (BLURAY)

The ultimate movie about a group of friends getting girls.  This movie shot Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn into stardom.  Simply amazing.  “A knowing examination of the psyche of the modern American male, Doug Liman’s debut comedy Swingers stars screenwriter Jon Favreau as the sensitive Mike, a struggling actor and stand-up comic looking for romance in the wake of the dissolution of a six-year relationship. Against his better judgment, he hits the town with his pal Trent (Vince Vaughn, in a star-making performance), a retro-hip smooth-talker who calls women “babies” and feels compelled to illustrate to Mike the error of his gentlemanly ways. First in Las Vegas and later in a series of hip L.A. nightspots, the duo and their other pals, including a guy named Sue (Patrick Van Horn), prowl for women, looking for kicks and cheap thrills. The difference is that while Trent wants sex, Mike wants love and romance. Only when he learns to simply be himself does he find what he’s looking for. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi”  A must have.  Get it.

  • THE WOMEN IN CAGES COLLECTION (BLURAY)

Fuck Yes!!!  This set owns.  Three movies in one set.  Pam Grier (Jackie Brown) joins a group of sexy, young female prisoners in their struggle against a sadistic warden in Big Doll House. This shockingly real film is perhaps one of the most influential of all women-in-prison films! Also starring Judy Brown, Roberta Collins (Death Race 2000) and Sid Haig (House Of 1,000 Corpses). Directed by Jack Hill (Spider Baby, Foxy Brown).  Innocent Carol Jeffries (Jennifer Gan, Naked Angels) is framed by her drug-dealing boyfriend and ends up in a tough prison in the Philippines jungle in Women In Cages. She must face off against the sadistic warden, Alabama (Pam Grier), who takes great pleasure in alternately seducing and torturing her prisoners. Also starring Judy Brown and Roberta Collins. Directed by Gerry De Leon (Mad Doctor Of Blood Island).  Inside the hellish women’s prison called The Big Bird Cage, inmates like Terry (Anitra Ford, The Price Is Right) struggle to survive. They get their chance to escape when scheming revolutionary Blossom (Pam Grier) engineers a prison break…from the outside in. Also starring Carol Speed (Abby). Directed by Jack Hill.
