Hi Bryan Here….

Tim Burton’s ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ was an instant cult classic.  Even to this day, people hold viewings to sold out crowds, dress up as characters from the film in public, and all the merchandising riddle clothing shops, toy stores, book stores, and gifts shops around the globe.  ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ is an amazing achievement in filmmaking.  This film has already been released on blu-ray, but Disney has converted it to 3D.  This version comes with the 3D Bluray, 2D Bluray, DVD, and Digital Copy.  Another great version to this timeless classic.  Loved it.

George Lucas Rapes My Childhood Yet Again!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 30th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

So yes.  George Lucas is raping my childhood again as we speak.  He likes doing it.  He gets pleasure in ruining his once long ago master pieces which have turned into mostly garbage.  So not only are we getting the special editions of Star Wars on bluray, but it seems like Lucas is changing things yet again to make this dying franchise worse and worse.  I’ll eat my words if he ever releases the original films on blu-ray, but sad to say folks, i doubt that is going to happen any time soon.  So I have two clips from the new Star Wars Blu-Rays where Lucas has changed a few things.  So just watch them below and feel the rape.

Hi Bryan Here….

I’ve been looking forward to the Guillermo Del Toro produced horror film ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ for quite some time.  No, it isn’t a spinoff or the inspiration from the Nickelodeon show ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark’.  It is a remake of the 1973 made for tv movie of the same name.  I did not know what to expect really from the movie before I watched it.  I was thinking it was going to be all horror, but to my surprise it was a much scarier, more hardcore horror film in the vein of the 80’s film ‘Gremlins’.  This is ultimately a kids film.  A very scary, dark, brutal kids film. When I was 10 or twelve years old, and I watched this, I would have nightmares for months.  This would have scared the shit out of me.

Lenny was kind enough to share some behind the scenes info about his new double album over at Record Store Day.com, which you can check below:

You guys are no doubt getting excited for the new Jimi Hendrix releases hitting the streets next month, am I right?!?

Most notably, I have my eye on the 8xLP box set of “Hendrix at Winterland”, which everyone should too. However, if you need a Hendrix fix right away, here is a deal for YOU!

The limited edition 7″ vinyl single (with the first 5,000 copies individually crash numbered) is available exclusively from AuthenticHendrix.com and select independent record stores throughout the United States. The A-Side track features “Johnny B. Goode,” a blistering live performance captured to tape during The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s 1st show on May 30, 1970 at the Berkeley Community Theatre and included on the album Hendrix In The West. The B-Side features a previously unreleased recording of “Purple Haze” recorded on October 10, 1968 during The Experience’s performance at San Francisco’s famed Winterland Ballroom and is exclusive to this limited edition vinyl single.

Clapton fans rejoice!

On 22 November, Warner Brothers / Reprise will release Clapton Blues, an Eric Clapton blues box set. The five vinyl LP collection will include the three albums From The Cradle, Riding With The King and Me and Mr. Johnson along with an exclusive lithograph of the cover image photo of Eric. This edition will be priced at $124.98 (US). Additionally, a limited edition version pressed on blue vinyl will be available only from EC’s official website, ericclapton.com.

Pre-order info will begin shortly. Be sure to check Clapton’s website for the sweet blue vinyl edition!

Record junkies, fans and ravenous collectors, take note: used record stores are your best friends, especially if the vinyl on hand is extremely affordable. Sometimes these places make it difficult to not walk out of there without spending fist-fulls of cash, or spending your entire day sifting through record after record. However, chances are the search is entirely worth it if you find something worth looking for.

Just this week after hitting up one of my local Half Price Books I found this gem of a Richie Havens record, “Electric Havens,” which I have never seen before, nor new existed. Oddly enough, there were three copies and I picked the cleanest one the store had. It’s a curious little record, one that doesn’t seem to have much info about, except for a blurb here and there on the net. Read the rest of this entry »

NEW YORK, Aug. 23, 2011 – This September, the day the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT) goes into effect, HBO will tell the strange-but-true tale of the U.S. military’s ban on gays and lesbians from its implementation, through passionate protests and debates, and finally to its 2011 repeal.  A timely and historical look at the legacy of gays and lesbians in the military, THE STRANGE HISTORY OF DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL illustrates the tumultuous evolution of the controversial policy that fostered hate and intolerance within the military – and undermined the very freedoms American forces defend – by forcing many soldiers to lie and live in secrecy.

Hi Bryan Here….

Criterion knocks it out of the park yet again with the release of Roman Polanski’s 1966 absurdly funny ‘Cul-De-Sac’.  Before Polanski’s larger hits such as ‘Chinatown’ and ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, he made more of the experimental type film.  This is where ‘Cul-De-Sac’ comes in.  Throughout the film, you will see the film go from a seductive and sadistic thriller and slowly change into a twisted dark comedy.  Truly a great little film from a fantastic director.  And of course anything with Donald Pleasence is gold right?

Criterion rolls out the red carpet yet again with Todd Solondz’s film, ‘Life During Wartime’.  This is a loosely based sequel to his hit 1998 film ‘Happiness’ where new actors play the same characters.  ‘Life During Wartime’ is a disturbed yet darkly funny film with an all-star cast that weaves a family’s trials and tribulations during a momentary time shortly after 9/11.  You will dislike and feel bad for most of the characters in this film, yet you will laugh throughout the film from their insane thoughts and lives.  I love watching ‘Life During Wartime’.  So many interesting characters to try and wrap your mind around and a gorgeous backdrop of sunny Florida make this Criterion release a must see and purchase.

Classic Waxxx: Jethro Tull “A”

by NapkinArt on Aug 23rd, 2011

Being a Jethro Tull fan for a number of years now I can honestly say the album “A” is sort of the ‘odd duck’ in the band’s early catalog. “A”, which was originally intended as band leader Ian Anderson’s first solo record, became the band’s 13th studio album in 1980, and has been met with much controversy and criticism with casual and die hard Jethro Tull fans for years. Bryan Becomes A ‘Dead Man’!!! (A Blu-Ray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 22nd, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…..

‘Dead Man’ might be my favorite Jim Jarmusch film.  Yes, better than ‘Coffee and Cigarettes’, ‘Broken Flowers’, and ‘Ghost Dog’.  The cast of ‘Dead Man’ is amazing with its lead being super star Johnny Depp.  Some think this is a western film.  I like to think of ‘Dead Man’ as the ultimate experimental western.  ‘Dead Man’ is simple and plain AWESOME.  This movie has everything going for it.  The acting, the story, the filming, the story, and the characters.  They all come together to erupt a truly creative and brutal film.  Highly recommended.

Bryan Gets Injected With ‘Venom’!!! (A Blu-Ray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 21st, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…..

After watching ‘Venom’ I could only think back to the hit horror film ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’.  Upon further research, the director of ‘Venom’ Jim Gillespe actually made ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’.  In addition, Kevin Williamson was a producer of the film.  Williamson wrote all the ‘Scream’ films.  So there are tons of nuances from those franchise of films that are put into ‘Venom’ which comes across as a mix between the two franchises that is set in a cajun Louisiana swamp type setting.  If you enjoyed ‘Scream’ and or ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ then you will definitely enjoy this thrill ride.  Despite all of its over the top sequences, it is actually a fun film.

Howdy again true believers.  FedMex Here….

First and foremost, my sincerest apologies for taking so long to finally watch this film.  A very selfish college buddy of mine decided that he would get married the same weekend that Rise of the Planet of the Apes was released.  I was unfortunately on a plane while this film was gracing screens across the country, and as an enthusiast who actually owns the five original Planet of the Ape movies on VHS, I refuse to forgive my friend for acting like a proverbial monkey throwing his own feces and deciding that a future with a woman he loves was more important than Andy Serkis reprising his role as a digitized ape.

Bryan Reviews ‘Everwood’ Complete 4th Season!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 17th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

So I’ll be honest, I have never seen an episode of ‘Everwood’ before.  I thought it really wouldn’t appeal to me, but I was shocked on how much better it was than I originally thought.  I mean it is no ‘Gilmore Girls’, but what is really?  Basically from what I can tell, ‘Everwood’ is about a single father family with two kids that movie to Everwood, Colorado and try to live a normal life without their mother and wife.  This fourth season was the last season.

“The project, which will center on the bloody hostilities between two clans that escalated to the point of near war between two states, will air next year, the 150th anniversary of the country’s most infamous family feud.”  Bill Paxton just signed on to play one of the characters in the rival families alongside Kevin Costner.

Hi Bryan Here….

Some very good releases this week.  I always scream like a schoolgirl when a Kubrick film is released on blu-ray criterion which…well…only happened one other time, but I hope much much more from Kubrick is released on Criterion.   Some of the must own blu-rays include ‘Kubrick’s ‘The Killing’ Criterion Collection’, ‘Big Lebowski’,  ‘Demolition Man’, plus some other goodies.   As usual, in this article, you will get some info about the disc and the extras that come with the movie as well as a personal opinion about the movie and a link to purchase the film over at AMAZON where you can save quite a bit of money, and it will give a small percentage kick back to this site so we can continue bringing you excellent stories and sales.

Enjoy and Here We Go!!

Hi Bryan Here…..

The HBO series ‘Hung’ Complete 2nd Season has just been announced for Blu-Ray and DVD for a release date of September 27th.  In its debut, Hung became a breakout hit and was declared “HBO’s best new comedy” by The New York Times.  The second season expertly built on this momentum “layering on even more heart, smarts and danger” (Red Eye), for a “fresher…more textured” (The Washington Post.com) making it one of the network’s most watched shows.

This week marks the 42nd Anniversary of Woodstock, ‘an aquarian exposition’ music & art festival that took place on a small dairy farm near Bethel, NY. Over a half million people bore witness to hear and experience 32 acts over the course of four days (August 15-18, 1969), which completely defined a generation, as well as being one of the most pivotal and peaceful moments during the tumultuous 1960s. It also served as one of the most important moments in music history. Read the rest of this entry »

Hi Bryan Here….

Jason Bateman has been working on his next project called ‘ID Theft’ which is about a man who gets his identity stolen by another guy, but after Batman saw Melissa in ‘Bridesmaids’, he talked her  into replacing the ‘guy character’.  She accepted.  I thought Melissa McCarthy was the best thing in ‘Bridesmaids’.  She has always been amazing. I remember really noticing her from ‘Gilmore Girls’, but her character from the show was a far cry from her character on ‘Bridesmaids’.

Ben K. Here….

I can’t say I was ever a big fan of the Planet of the Apes series, and I certainly wouldn’t claim to have enjoyed Tim Burton’s misguided 2001 remake of the 1968 original. Having said that, I think there were some interesting ideas and the occasional burst of exciting storytelling in the five year (1968-1973) franchise. The first, starring Charlton Heston and directed by Franklin J. Schaffner (of Patton fame), was definitely the crown jewel. The best compliment I can pay Rupert Wyatt’s 2011 series reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, is that I think the crown jewel is still to come.

Hi Bryan Here….

This film is so amazing.  It reminds me a lot of ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ in the way of how the family deals with their issues and sticks together.  I love seeing films like this.  Very feel good story with extremely likable and relatable characters who stick together.  Disney is really on a roll with their foreign films.  This film, ‘Do Dooni Chaar’ is not just a great foreign film, but a movie you can add to any collection of you love movies.  What a treat this was.

Hi Bryan Here….

Again, how awesome is it that Disney is releasing foreign films in the sci-fi fantasy genre?  It’s kick-ass I tell you.  This film, ‘Once Upon a Warrior’ is pretty epic if I may say so.  First off the film is a little on the hardcore side and is over two hours long.  So you know there is definite story and character development in this film for kids.  The visuals are fantastic and the special FX are almost top notch.  I was surprised on how crazy cool this film was.

Disney’s ‘Zokkomon’ Is Quite Good!!! (A DVD Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 11th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…..

I really love that Disney is releasing films from around the world.  I think it is great that kids and adults alike will get the chance to see what movies are like from other far off countries.  One of those films is ‘Zokkomon’ which sounds like a Pokemon character but it is a Hindu film about the magic of being a hero.  It really came across very well and was delighted to watch it.

Bryan Finds ’30 Minutes or Less’ Outrageously Funny!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 10th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

’30 Minutes or Less’ is one of those movies you will laugh so hard that your entire body will hurt after watching the film.  Ruben Fleischer directed ’30 Minutes or Less’.  His previous film was the horror comedy hit ‘Zombieland’ with Jesse Eisneberg.  After ‘Zombieland’ made tons and tons of money, Fleischer was pretty much offered every mega budget film in Hollywood.  He turned them all down to direct this very small comedy.  Not sure why he chose to do this, but it is indeed hysterical.  This movie does not succeed in its story plot, but rather its knee slapping comedic dialogue between the actors.  This is one of those films you will be quoting for days and remember at inappropriate moments and just burst out laughing from a piece of the dialogue.  Great little film ’30 Minutes or Less’ is.  Definitely recommend seeing it.

That’s right, TBS has officially cancelled the George Lopez talk show ‘Lopez Tonight’.  This was eventually going to happen.  It was just a matter of when.  TBS wanted to cancel the show back when Conan O’Brien came to the network, but Conan insisted that Lopez stick around.  Most likely because Conan did not want to be the guy who got rid of Lopez.

Hi Bryan Here….

I have no idea who made this, but it is all sorts of AWESOME.  It looks like it was colored with crayons.  “How long could we maintain? I wondered. How long until one of us starts raving and jabbering at this boy? What will he think then? This same lonely desert was the last known home of the Manson family; will he make that grim connection when my attorney starts screaming about bats and huge manta rays coming down on the car? If so, well, we’ll just have to cut his head off and bury him somewhere, ’cause it goes without saying that we can’t turn him loose. He’d report us at once to some kind of outback Nazi law enforcement agency and they’ll run us down like dogs. Jesus, did I say that? Or just think it? Was I talking? Did they hear me?”
