Hi Bryan Here….

Disney is hard at work on their ‘Tron’ franchise with another film and a new animated series.  The animated series will be called ‘Tron: Uprising’ and is set to premiere in the summer of 2012.   “oices in the show come from Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Lance Henriksen, and Bruce Boxleitner.”  That’s one hell of a voice cast.  Also it appears that Daft Punk will be scoring the tv series.

‘Me and the Devil’

Airdate 7/24/2011

True Blood episode “Me and the Devil”, while good in its own right, was clearly a filler episode. It moved and built up the many story lines that the show is working this season. On that note, it almost feels like the show is trying too hard to keep this many story lines going and keeping them interesting. The episode itself felt rushed and hurried. The transitions from scene to scene were abrupt and not what I’m used to when watching True Blood. Each scene basically gave us 5 minutes with each story line. It was a little on the frustrating side. It was like getting a massage five minutes at a time, when it starts to feel good it changes. But again as a whole I did enjoy the episode. Now on to a re-cap of the story lines!

“1969 was a year unlike any other. Man first set foot on the moon. The New York Mets won the World Series against all odds. And for three days in the rural town of Bethel, New York, half a million people experienced the single most defining moment of their generation; a concert unprecedented in scope and influence, a coming together of people from all walks of life with a single common goal: Peace and music. They called it Woodstock. One year later, a landmark Oscar®-winning documentary captured the essence of the music, the electricity of the performances, and the experience of those who lived it. Newly remastered, the film features legendary performances by 17 best selling artists.”  This set normally sells for $70.00, but is on sale for 63% off making it $25.99!!!  This is a MUST OWN!!!

Hi Bryan Here….

There are not a lot of reviews yet for this movie, but the ones I have seen so far have not been good at all.  I whole heartedly disagree with all of these critics.  This ‘Smurfs’ movie was surprisingly a whole lot of fun, great, and funny.  I was not expecting that at all.  The mix between the CG and real world is amazing.  And Hank Azaria’s performance as Gargamel is spectacular.  He has proven once again he is one of the greatest character actors of our time. This movie will be fun for the whole family with everyone of every age enjoying it.

Hi Bryan Here….

‘Snowflower and the Secret Fan’ is a film by Wayne Wang who is probably most known for his film ‘The Joy Luck Club’.  Over the years Wang has directed movies such as ‘Smoke’, ‘Because of Winn-Dixie’, and ‘Maid in Manhattan’.  These are a far cry from ‘Joy Luck Club’, ‘A Thousand Years of Good Prayers’ and his most recent ‘Snowflower and the Secret Fan’.  I must say I am happy to see Wang return to the Chinese American storylines in his films.  He does this effortlessly.  ‘Snowflower and the Secret Fan’ is based on the novel by Lisa See.

The summer months are quickly approaching the horizon like the fury of black iron and steel. Soon, it’ll be hotter outside than hell and the all of the coal that powers the engines on the Santa Fe line.

Summer is that time of year where most people, like myself, are desperately wanting to travel and be mobile for a little while. We want to escape the confines of office deadlines and see the world from the vantage point of a moving car or fast aero plane. For the folks of Johnny Cash’s time, they may still dream of seeing things from the opening of a big box car, traveling East and West on the Rock Island Line or the Union Pacific Railroad. Sadly, for most of us that era of American life has whizzed on by, but the songs collected on “All Aboard The Blue Train” sure does the job of getting us to a time in our minds where we wish to ride the open rails. Hi Bryan Here….

I was just blown away with ‘Another Earth’.  When I first saw the trailer I expected one thing.  What I got was so much more and then some.  Now I am a huge fan of science fiction and space exploration.  There has been many times, mostly in college, where I have had in depth conversations with friends about numerous scenarios of “what if a new planet was created that could sustain life just like Earth”.  This film has that scenario, but it is much deeper and has so much more going for it than just the sci-fi factor.  I can honestly say that ‘Another Earth’ is one of the better films to come out in a long time.

‘Snow Flower and the Secret Fan’ Review

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is a film filled with good intentions, but a poor understanding of subtlety. Wayne Wang, the film’s Chinese American director, takes aim at a particular demographic and pushes every possible button. Wang has been better; see The Joy Luck Club. I found his latest to be redundant in both message and narrative, as it essentially tells the same story twice in different costumes.

Someone recently told me a good rule about country music is that ‘if you can twang it, you can sang it.’ I had to laugh at the notion, but when it comes to classic country music I couldn’t agree more with that sentiment.

Two of country’s most prominent icons, Ernest Tubb and Loretta Lynn, teamed up to unload “Mr. And Mrs. Used To Be” on the masses, a collection of songs about woe, heartache and joy between two people who could honesty love and/or hate each other with a smile upon their faces. However, these two respected crooners of country love keep it classy and conservative, as they trade line for line. Tubb’s authoritative vocal presence, coupled with Lynn’s Appalachian twang work well together in their duets, delivering the kind of country duet LP you’d expect to know and love. Classic Waxxx: Ringo Starr “Old Wave”

by NapkinArt on Jul 19th, 2011

Let’s face it. Everyone loves Ringo, the fun-lovin’ drummer from the world’s greatest rock n’ roll band, The Beatles. Admit it. You’ve got all the records with Ringo’s head circled in red like some crazed lunatic, hoping to snip a little piece of hair from his mop top if he ever crossed your path (hey, it’s happened to him before!) But, did you know Ringo made some incredible solo albums on his own?

“Old Wave”, Ringo Starr’s ninth studio album to be exact, is one of the most over-looked and underrated albums of his career. Starr enjoyed much commercial success with his post-Beatles  albums, such as the self-titled “Ringo” and follow-up “Goodnight Vienna”, featuring a who’s who of rock royalty pitching in on playing and recording. However, by the time Starr recorded “Old Wave”, the scene and atmosphere of Starr’s personal life was a different story. Read the rest of this entry »

The ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Trailer Is Here!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 18th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Well the third and final Batman film is upon us and we have it’s first teaser trailer for your viewing pleasure.  There really isn’t much to see, but it definitely will get you excited.  Most of the trailer is old footage from the previous films.  But you get a half a second of what looks like ‘Bane’ and a very Inception-y like clip of buildings crumbling.  I am excited for this, and I just hope for the best.  Enjoy the trailer below.

Hi Bryan Here….

Kevin Costner has just joined Quentin Tarantino’s Spaghetti Western ‘Django Unchained’.  He is set to play a character named Ace Woody.  “He’s the sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes.”  This is a different role for Costner as he will be more of the villain than the good guy.  Plus, I think this will re-vitalize Costner’s career in a good way.  I already can’t wait to see this film.

Soderbergh’s ‘Contagion’ Gets A Trailer!!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 15th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

At first I thought this was Soderbergh’s answer to ’28 Days Later’.  It still could be.  But it feels like more of his answer to ‘Outbreak’.  This has one hell of a cast and I think it will be pretty great.  Can’t wait.  “An action-thriller centered on the threat posed by a deadly disease and an international team of doctors contracted by the CDC to deal with the outbreak.”  Enjoy the trailer.

Classic Waxxx: Big Mama Thornton “In Europe”

by NapkinArt on Jul 15th, 2011

The era of the power-house female blues singer is long gone. Bessie Smith. Janis Joplin. Memphis Minnie. Big Maybelle. But, one of the absolute greats here is Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton, whose blues will absolutely shake you to your foundation.

Outside of hardcore blues fans Big Mama Thornton is probably one of the more obscure of the blues singers, as her career began in 1951, but started to fade quickly in the late 1950s/early 1960s. However, Thornton recorded with some of the most notable blues musicians of her day, many now legendary, like Buddy Guy, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Muddy Waters and Big Walter Horton. Warner Bros. is wanting to purchase a project on ‘Gaius Julius Caesar’ based on a story pitch.  They are wanting Chris Boal to write and Jonathan Liebesman to direct.  Boal really hasn’t done anything besides work on a press kit and Libesman is responsible for such disasters as ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ and ‘Darkness Falls’.  And supposedly they want a different original version of the story with a major star to play Caesar.

Ted Danson Joins ‘CSI’ As Series Regular!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 13th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Two weeks ago, talks started with Ted Danson for him to take on the team leader and lead role on the original ‘CSI’ series for CBS.  Things must have gone well because now Ted Danson will star in ‘CSI’.  He will replace the role Laurence Fishburne recently had.  Danson has proved he is one hell of a likable actor and fun to watch on screen.  His work was amazing on FX’s ‘Damages’, and his work on HBO’s ‘Bored To Death’ is some of my favorite tv watching in recent memory.  I just hope he plans to have the same amount of air time on ‘Bored To Death’.  It seems like he will.  Enjoy the press release below.

Classic Waxxx: James Brown “Think” (Single)

by NapkinArt on Jul 12th, 2011

There’s no mistaking the fact James Brown is indeed the ‘Godfather of Soul’, the baddest mofo to ever ‘funk up’ the airwaves backed with one of the greatest rhythm and horn sections, ever.

Brown originally recorded this Lowman Pauling tune in 1960 with his band The Famous Flames, after the original version by The “5” Royales, however the version featured here is 5th version Brown and his band would record and release as a single. This version of “Think” is typical funky ‘make me sweat’ James Brown, which punches your ear gut with a blast of horns and bass from the get-go. The ditty charges the listener to reminisce and ‘think’ about the good times and bad, and what’s about happening on the streets. Clocking in at just over three minutes, this early 1970s recording still sounds as brilliant and relevant as ever, and holds its own as an authentic stand-alone version from the previous efforts. ‘Blind Date’

Airdate 07/05/2011

We start out our Monday in the seedy back alley of Rosewood’s Main Street. Where the per capita homeless ratio is astounding. Spencer goes into Schmidt’s Pawn to retrieve the stolen ring. She hands him the claim ticket for a $2k ring and gets back a rusty horseshoe. But way worth the awkward WTF moment to hear Spencer tell the dealer “I need that ring back today so you get behind that counter and find it!” No go and Spencer is the proud owner of a tetanus-laced good luck charm. Once outside, the shock and awe begins and then group jingles on the phone to which they get the text “Lucky for me diamonds are a girl’s best friend. A” Aria looks up to see a very creepy optometrist’s ad with the slogan “Someone’s Watching You So Look Your Best.” Coincidentally, Aria is looking quite adorable.

Well here is a documentary that follows Sarah Palin around showing how she is the heroine of the Tea Party.  But supposedly it fails to mention that she actually has been defeated many times.  I’m sure this documentary will anger some and for others will only fuel the fire for her supporters.  To me, I will probably laugh all the way through the film.  Palin is bat-shit crazy and I’m sure this documentary will show that.  Enjoy the trailer.

Check Out The Trailer for ‘Amigo’!!!

They focus on the local head man who finds himself torn between loyalty to his family and the Americans.”  Not sure how good this will be, but we will see.  Your thoughts?

Cowdefender Here,

I went in expecting a slightly above average comedy. I am a huge Bateman fan and I have no issues with anyone else in this film. It exceeded those medium expectations. It was fairly consistently funny throughout and didn’t feel horribly derivative at any point. They kept it almost entirely above base (most rated R comedies seem to need to throw in a wet far at some point).

From now until Sunday, all four Alien films are on sale over at AMAZON at 64% off making each blu-ray $12.49.  This is not the big collection set.  This is each individual release, which pretty much makes up that set.  These are pretty much direct transfers from the collection set, minus a few extras, and the special bonus disc.  If you have the collectors set already, then you don’t need these.  I suggest if you only want to own the first two Alien films, then this is the way to go.  Great prices, and great transfers.

Hi Bryan Here….

I can only describe my viewing of this film as 104 minutes of nails on a chalkboard.  It was painfully bad.  It’s not necessarily the actors, but rather the entire script, story, and voice acting.  This film has the lowest brow of humor and will probably mostly be enjoyed by five year olds.  The film reminds me of Dr. Dolittle and Night of the Museum in that the exhibits talk and are alive, and humans can hear the animals speak English.  A disaster on all levels.
