Hi Bryan Here….

AWESOME!  One of Fulci’s horror masterpieces is being released on blu-ray just in time for Halloween this year.  We are talking about the horror classic ‘The House By The Cemetery’.  This film is an italian horror classic from 1981 and is argued a lot that this is Fulci’s best film.  So excited about this.  This movie is set to be released September 27th, 2011.  Read below all the details.

Hi Bryan Here….

Actress/Producer/Director Drew Barrymore will direct and produce a new film from Warner Bros. called ‘Heist Society’.  This film is based on a book by Ally Carter.  There was a multi-studio bidding war going on for the rights for this film.  Let’s hope Warner made the right decision.  Barrymore directed the critically acclaimed ‘Whip It’ about the Roller Derby game.

Hi Bryan Here….

Marvel and Paramount must have tons of faith in Thor, because it has already been given a sequel and release date.  The date is set for July 26th, 2013, and so far Chris Hemsworth will return to play the Mighty Thor.  No word on if any of the other cast will return.  I’m sure they will.  But director Kenneth Branagh will not be back.  Sources say he declined and it went down mutually and amicably.

‘My Name is Trouble’

Airdate 06/28/2011

As far as creepy show openers go, this one is tits. The 4Gs are watching an old movie in an empty theater when creepy hooded figure keeps popping up with flashes of light, talk of Jason’s urine and his involvement with Ian and all the while Hannah is crunch-a-munching so loud on popcorn it makes me laugh. Hooded figure appears and the girls scream then Aria or Hannah yells, “I can’t find my other shoe!” Who takes off their shoes in a movie theater? Spencer is babbling and we cut to that pregnant bitch, Melissa shaking her awake by knocking her off the sofa looking for her missing wedding ring. Her sausage fingers can’t contain the petite beauty of her blood diamonds.

Hi Bryan Here….

So it has been a few years since the J.J. Abrams directed Mission Impossible 3 film which was actually really good.  Phillip Seymour Hoffman did an amazing job in the film, and Tom Cruise was fun to watch.  This film looks to amp up everything from the 3rd film to the 11th degree, but is that a smart move?  Only time will tell.  I hope you enjoy the trailer.  I hated the pink/eminem song in it, but when they got that Mission Impossible theme in there, I admit, I got giddy.  The film opens in December of this year.

Hi Bryan Here…..

We have done some coverage on this 100th version of ‘Three Musketeers’.  I have to say this one does look fairly decent.  I have just never been that big of a fan of the trio.  Don’t know why.  It always put me to sleep.  I know a lot of you love it, but I hope you enjoy the new trailer.  “The hot-headed young D’Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.”  The film opens up in October of this year.

Hi Bryan Here….

Here is a film from director Steven Spielberg that “follows a young man named Albert and his horse, Joey, and how their bond is broken when Joey is sold to the cavalry and sent to the trenches of World War One. Despite being too young to enlist, Albert heads to France to save his friend.”  Don’t know too much about it other than that.  We will see.  This comes out late this year.  Plus get a hilarious snap judgement from our own Sparky Shagwell.

The Starz Series ‘Party Down’ To Get Its Own Movie?!?!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 28th, 2011

It’s the song Joel and Ethan Coen made beyond famous in their 1998 cult film hit “The Big Lebowski”, all with the thanks to musician and producer T-Bone Burnett for plucking this gem out of near obscurity, and the absolute one song that has been on my ‘I-must-own-this-record-if-it’s-the-last-thing-I-ever-do’ list. It’s also the one song in the history of music that gives some shred of coolness and dignity to Kenny Rogers, despite the many terrible country cross-over songs we’ve been subjected to all these many years. “Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)” is the epitome of awesome regardless of where it’s been or who has sung it.

Bryan Gets A ‘Sucker Punch’ To The Face!!! (A Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 28th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…..

First and foremost, this blu-ray of Zack Snyder’s ‘Sucker Punch’ might be one of the best, if not the best looking and sounding release of the year.  Scratch that.  EVER.  I was just blown away by the picture and sound Warner has mixed on this film.  It is truly remarkable.  Now that being said, the film itself is a chaotic mess.  Yes it looks cool and it is fun to see the huge spectacle on screen, but none of it really makes any coherent sense of  a story.

Hi Bryan Here….

In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Warner Bros. Will Go For ‘Green Lantern 2’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 27th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Warner Bros. will be pursuing the sequel of ‘Green Lantern’ despite what some would say a box office failure.  Yes the film cost $200 million.  It has not made its money back yet no, but it has only been out for two weeks.  It will make its money back guaranteed.  It’s just not the huge instant money maker the studio hoped for.  So far in its two weeks it has made over $90 million dollars.  Add several more weeks for domestic release and add foreign markets.  Then add the dvd/bluray.  It will get over that $200 million mark.  I’d imagine they will cut the budget in half or more for the sequel.  Honestly, the ‘Green Lantern; film could have easily been made for less than $100 million.  I am looking forward to the sequel.  Read my review for ‘Green Lantern’ HERE.

Darren Aronofsky to Direct ‘Noah’s Ark’?!?!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 27th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

So this is the film Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) dropped Wolverine for.  So over the last month or so, Fox and Paramount have been bidding to acquire a big fantasy adaptation of ‘Noah’s Ark’.  And Darren Aronofsky will be the director of it.  This is expected to be a $100 million dollar budget film.  Aronoksy originally wrote the script for this Ark project, but is being re-tooled by ‘Gladiator’ writer John Logan.  I’m sure in the coming days, we will see who gets the film, but I’m sure Paramount will be victorious.  At least we know it will be better than the Steve Carrell vehicle about ‘Noah’s Ark’.  I’m actually looing forward to seeing this big budget fantasy tale come to life through the eyes that brought us ‘Requiem for a Dream’.

Bryan Sits In Class With A ‘Bad Teacher’!!! (A Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 23rd, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

When I first saw the red band trailer for ‘Bad Teacher’ I’ll admit that I laughed quite a bit.  It was extremely vulgar in the way of language.  It reminded me of Bad Santa.  It seemed like one of those films that the comedy was going to come from the use of vulgar language.  And I was totally right.  After seeing the film, the comedy is built on the use of vulgar language.  But sadly the film doesn’t work.  Cameron Diaz is a wretched mess throughout the whole film while Justin Timberlake’s amazing talent is wasted on horrible dialogue and story.  The only good part of the film is Jason Segel which unfortunately only has about 10 or 15 minutes of screen time.  But every time he is on film, it is comedic gold.

Bryan Takes The ‘Green Lantern’ Oath!!! (A Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 23rd, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

I know it’s a little late to the party, but better late than never right?  I am actually glad I am chiming in on ‘Green Lantern’ after it has been out for a while.  It seems that most critics are ripping ‘Green Lantern’ a new asshole.  A lot of negativity is surrounding this film.  I get why most of the people are upset, but not to this extent.  Now when I watched the first couple of trailer fort his film, I couldn’t believe what my eyes saw.  It looked horrible and was not what I read in the script at all.  Whoever cut that trailer should not be allowed to work anymore.  But then that big theatrical trailer came out, and all seemed right with the world.  I was excited for Green Lantern and couldn’t wait to see it.  The film works.  Yes it has a bit of fat around the edges, but it is a solid film and most of all, it is entertaining and fun.

Bryan Learns ‘The Art Of Getting By’!!! (A Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 23rd, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

I really enjoyed this little gem of a film.  This is the film Woody Allen would have made in his teen years.  ‘The Art Of Getting By’ is a coming of age movie at heart, but it has more soul and likability than most other films than it will compare to.  This is in part by its actors and director.  The director is Gavin Wiesen which this film is his first feature film and if this is to show us what he is capable of, then we can expect great things from this guy in the future.  Put him on your radar.  The film stars Freddie Highmore who is a teenager now.  He has grown up from the kid actor from ‘Finding Neverland’ and Tim Burton’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.  He plays a classic Woody Allen character who is a witty and likable smart ass and is in a constant state of mind of “what’s the point?  we are all going to die.  why do anything?”  Classic Woody Allen.

We wrote about Pixar’s new film ‘Brave a while ago which you can find here and see some screen shots.  The teaser trailer should be in front of ‘Cars 2’.  Poster looks great.  What do you think?

Hi Bryan Here….

Oh GoBots.  You will always hold a special place in my heart.  You are like the HD-DVD to bluray.  Gone too soon.  In Kevin Smith’s ‘Clerks 2, Jason Lee’s character Lance Dowds references the Gobots as the “K-Mart” of Transformers.  This is very true.  In every way, shape, and form, the Transformers have outsold and outdone the Gobots.  And the Gobots were first on the scene one year before Transformers ever were.  There are tons of similarities between the two universes.  For instance, Gobots came from Gobotron and a year later the Transformers came from Cybertron.  But even the Gobots with their generic brand, it is still a good cartoon by the great team of Hanna-Barbera and quite fun.

Yes that’s right  We have been hearing about a remake of the Kevin Bacon film ‘Footloose’ for some time now.  Well we finally have a trailer for it, and to be honest, it doesn’t look half bad.  It is directed by Craig Brewer which he directed ‘Hustle and Flow’ and ‘Black Snake Moan’.  So you know Craig has the talent and he is very much into music going by those movies.  I remember seeing the original ‘Footloose’ growing up, and while I never was one of its huge fanatics, it still holds a good place in my mind. Now Brewer has updated the film for a new generation and I imagine fans of the original will either hate or love it.  But with Brewer’s talent, it is looking to be that people will enjoy it.

A ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ Sequel Might Happen!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 21st, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Director David Wain recently sat down with Jeff Goldsmith for a Q & A session and they talked about the upcoming tenth anniversary of that cult comedy instant classic ‘ Wet Hot American Summer’.  When discussing the anniversary, Wain said that Universal won’t release a 10th Anniversary edition of the film.  Universal is stupid to not do this.  This movie has such  an all-star cast which were all almost unknowns at the time.  They included: aul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooperand Elizabeth Banks as well as Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Ian Black, A.D. Miles, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Zak Orth, Margurerite Moreau, Judah Friedlander and Michael Showalter who co-wrote the script along with director David Wain (”Role Models,” “Children’s Hospital”).

Hi Bryan Here…

Actor Warren Beatty has just made a big deal with Paramount Picutres to write/direct/produce/star in a new film he has written.  The project is currently under wraps and has no title yet, but Paramount seems to think it has a lot of potential. Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey, who announced the project Monday. “It is our privilege to have one of the great artists in the history of the film industry come home to Paramount.”  I’m thinking Dick Tracy 2.

Music and a Movie

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 20th, 2011

Hi, M.D. here…

I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into last Thursday night when I went to the first of three monthly series presented by D Magazine’s Front Row called “Dallas, Outlaws, and the American Dream”.

Bonnie and ClydeBringing together the best of both worlds; signature films that feature a subversive outlaw portrayal with a North Texas connection, along with a local music artist who happens to explore similar themes in their own lyrical presentation. On this particular evening, we’re pleased to present talented Dallas-based singer-songwriter Miles Penhall performing early in the front gallery space, and then the film “Bonnie and Clyde” will screen shortly thereafter inside the main showroom.

The themed evening was quite intimate, just as the Kessler always is, even when it is packed (which this particular evening it wasn’t) there is a close ambiance about the theater. This was a great idea of an evening that included great music and a classic movie. Read the rest of this entry »

Hi Bryan Here….

So I went in to this tv series not knowing anything besides that it is on ABC Family and that it has Molly Ringwald in it.  So after reading about it, I thought to myself, this sounds a little like ‘Juno’, but I was very skeptical.  So basically ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’ follows a teenage girl named Amy Juergens who becomes pregnant in High School and how she deals with al of the consequences of being a teenage mother.  Sounds like Juno right??

Hi Bryan Here….

So far we have seen the new and upcoming Muppet Movie spoof on Green Lantern, Hanover 2, and some generic romantic comedy, but now they have their own 2 and a half minute official trailer.  And it is glorious.  It was awesome seeing the Electric Mayhem bus again.  Plus a synopsis:  “When Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater, they help Kermit reunite the Muppets to stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater.”  The movie opens Thanksgiving time.  I can’t wait.  Enjoy the trailer.

Hi Bryan Here….

WOW.  This was a mighty mighty fun blu-ray set to get through.  Took a while as there are hours and hours of extras and commentaries to listen and watch.  It was great watching all of these again.  Some greater than others.  I haven’t watched all of the Superman films since that tin DVD box set came out several years ago.  Oh man do these newly remastered blu-rays look fucking beautiful in HI-DEF.  So, this particular review will be set up by film.  I will go through all eight discs of the set and outline everything you would ever want to know about them.  From the movie itself to the extras and the audio and video quality.  This is one hell of a set and Warner Bros. and DC went above and beyond the call of making one AWESOME home video release in Superman.

Classic Waxxx: Muddy Waters “Unk” In Funk

by NapkinArt on Jun 17th, 2011

It’s been long disputed who is the actually ‘King of the Blues’, even more so when it comes to Chicago Blues. I like the blues no matter where it comes from, rich or poor, black or white, but no matter  who ends up taking the crown Muddy Waters will always hold one of the top spots in my record collection.

There’s been some major staples in Muddy Waters’ catalog over the decades, like “Electric Mud” and “Folk Singer”, but this lesser-known jewel called “Unk” In Funk is another classic that deserves proper recognition.

I am so psyched for a new Muppets film.  We saw the first trailer a few weeks ago that sort of played out like a romantic comedy, that is until we see Kermit.  Check the first trailer out HERE.  Now with the anticipation of the Green Lantern coming out this weekend, and with Kermit being green and all, it all kinda goes hand in hand.  Such a fun trailer.  And of course “It’s not in Sweedish”.  LOL!

Hall Pass‘ is genuinely funny movie at times.  I think it gets off track here and there, but most of the time it packs gut busting laughs, and that excellent raunchy Farrelly brother humor we have all come to known and love.  This film has a brilliant cast that includes, Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis from SNL, Jenna Fischer from the Office, Christina Applegate, Stephen Merchant, and Richard Jenkins.  I have to say that Sudeikis is definitely the best and funniest actor in the entire film.

The other day I sat in a used book and record store with a friend of mine, and we sifted through stacks and stacks of used 7″ singles, curious to see what sort of gems we could walk away with. After spending what seemed like several hours looking through all of the records, like grubstakers panning for gold, I found this beautiful Ella Fitzgerald single with a Verve Records label, a label synonymous for producing incredible blues and jazz records. I didn’t even pay attention to the songs on the record, I just instinctively knew this record had to come home with me. Thankfully, I managed to find a few other Fitzgerald singles on this trip, which they too, found a new home.

Bryan Finds Out He’s ‘Unknown’!!! (A Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 13th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Here is a little film starring Liam Neeson, January Jones, and Diane Kruger.  A pretty great cast to start with and an interesting enough story line.  Does it work?  Ina way, yes it does.  I’ll say this off the bat.  Many people will compare and bring up Liam Neeson’s prior film, ‘Taken’.  Let me assure you, this  is not ‘Taken’, nor is it as good as ‘Taken’.  Sure it is a fun thrill ride to watch, but it ends up being a “by the book” amnesia film with really no plot twist or turn after the first half of the film.  That being said, ‘Unknown’ is still fun ride to watch.
