A pretty decent but short list of picks this week, but the movies that got picked are AMAZING. I have been waiting forever for “The Incredibles” to come out on bluray. Finally it is here. BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS (BLURAY)
WOW. I can’t believe this has been released on bluray. This film is all sorts of AWESOME. First off you have Roger Corman and a young James Cameron doing Special FX in an insane Sci-Fi epic that will rock your lasers off. It has been way to long since I have seen this movie. Now it seems like this film was supposed to come out today, but it is out of stock on amazon but you can sign up and Amazon will contact yo when it is available. I had to put this on this column, because it is just so BADASS. Shad must scour the cosmos to recruit mercenaries from different planets and cultures, in order to save his peaceful home planet from the threat of the evil tyrant Sador, bent on dominating and enslaving the entire universe. Joining this “magnificant seven” of mercenaries are the deadly Gelt, carefree Cowboy, and the sexy Valkyrie Saint-Exmin.
GA-REI-ZERO COMPLETE COLLECTION (BLURAY)
This anime is not too shabby. It is quite a lot of fun to watch. I love when anime dives into the horror genre. It just goes bat shit insane.
The creative team behind the Full Metal Panic! trilogy is back with a nightmare-inducing series about teenage exorcists forced to draw swords against bloodthirsty creatures of unholy origins.
Kagura and Yomi may look like ordinary school girls as they walk the streets of Tokyo clad in short skirts and knee-high socks, but they’re the heroes you scream for when monsters creep out of the darkness. These sword-totting sisters are part of an elite counterattack unit that specializes in suppressing outbreaks of supernatural activity. They train together, live together, eat together, and spend their nights disemboweling demons with sacred blades. Tragedy strikes when Yomi is possessed by a dark spirit, and Kagura must choose between raising her weapon against the eerily familiar face of ultimate evil – or watching her flesh and blood slaughter innocent citizens. In a life or death battle that pits sister against sister, survival may be the greatest agony of all.

THE INCREDIBLES (BLURAY+DVD+DIGITAL COPY)
This might be the best super-hero film ever made. Yes even better than The Dark Knight, X-Men, and Spider-Man. This film has so much going for it. This is the 2nd best Pixar film to date. I am hoping we will get a sequel to this movie. Hopefully within the next five years. It just needs to happen. The bluray is stunning as usual when coming from Pixar. This is a MUST OWN. Tons of extras.

LE CERCLE ROUGE (BLURAY CRITERION COLLECTION)
One of my favorite crime thrillers. Everything about this movie is cool. As usual Criterion lays out the red carpet for this re-release on this newly beautiful hi-def transfer. Love Criterion. Alain Delon (The Leopard, Le samouraï) plays a master thief, fresh out of prison, who crosses paths with a notorious escapee and an alcoholic ex-cop (The Wages of Fear’s Yves Montand). The unlikely trio plot a heist, against impossible odds, and then a relentless inspector and their own pasts seal their fates. Le cercle rouge, from Jean-Pierre Melville (Le samouraï, Army of Shadows), combines honorable antiheroes, coolly atmospheric cinematography, and breathtaking set pieces to create a masterpiece of crime cinema.

MARWENCOL (BLURAY)
I have heard a lot of great things about this film, but I have not had a chance to watch it yet. The story seems very interesting and something original. If you are a film lover like me , you need to owe it to yourself to get this film. Outside a small bar in Kingston, NY, Mark Hogancamp was beaten nearly to death, his memories wiped away. Seeking recovery, he builds Marwencol, a miniature World War II-era town filled with doll versions of his friends, fantasies, and even his attackers. As he documents the town s dramas with his camera, the dolls become living characters in an epic tale of love, adventure, resurrection and revenge. When his photos are discovered by the art world, Mark is suddenly forced to choose between the safety of his imaginary world and the real world he s avoided since the attack.

WHITE MATERIAL (BLURAY CRITERION COLLECTION)
In White Material, the great contemporary French filmmaker Claire Denis, known for her restless, intimate dramas, introduces an unforgettably crazed character. Played ferociously by Isabelle Huppert, Maria is an entitled white woman living in Africa, desperately unwilling to give up her family’s crumbling coffee plantation despite the civil war closing in on her. Created with Denis’ signature full-throttle visual style, which places the viewer in the center of the maelstrom, White Material is a gripping evocation of the death throes of European colonialism and a fascinating look at a woman lost in her own mind. Another great criterion release with loads of extras.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1 (BLURAY+DVD+DIGITAL COPY)
This is my favorite Harry Potter film thus far. Read my review of the film HERE. It looks so glorious on bluray and is of course loaded with extras. Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort’s immortality and destruction – the Horcruxes. On their own and on the run, the three friends must now rely on one another more than ever…but Dark Forces in their midst threaten to tear them apart. Meanwhile the wizarding world has become a dangerous place. The long-feared war has begun and the Dark Lord has seized control of the Ministry of Magic and even Hogwarts, terrorizing and arresting all who might oppose him. The Chosen One has become the hunted one as the Death Eaters search for Harry with orders to bring him to Voldemort…alive.
