….AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (BLURAY)

A pretty solid political drama thriller with Al Pacino about a corrupt judge who is charged with rape, Arthur Kirkland must defend him. Kirkland has had problems with the judge in the past, including one incident when the judge wrongly sentenced his client, Jeff McCullaugh, because of a technicality. Kirkland faces a moral and legal dilemma, especially difficult because the judge admits he is guilty.  A good film and a must have for any Al Pacino fan.   An ethical Baltimore defense lawyer disgusted with rampant legal corruption is asked to defend a judge he despises in a rape trial. But if he doesn’t do it, the judge will have him disbarred.

A.I.: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (BLURAY)

I remember when this film came out and the months that led up to its release.  First off, this was to be Kubrick’s next film following Eyes Wide Shut.  He had storyboards and production art for this film already.  Kubrick wanted to work on A.I. with Spielberg and they went back and forth with each other on who would direct and who would produce.  But sadly, Kubrick passed away before Eyes Wide Shut was released and Kubrick’s wife said in a press conference that Spielberg was going to helm the project himself in tribute to her late husband.  Spielberg pretty much had no option.  So in the months leading up to the release of A.I. there was a GIANT online horror/thriller game that tied in with the film.  There were numbers to call and names to search for on the movie posters and trailers.  I remember playing the online mystery thriller for hours on end in college.  It was spectacular and the first of the online viral marketing for films.  But this film itself is beautiful and horrific.  Spielberg really upped his game to make t look like it was actually made by Kubrick himself .  This film is so hart warming and heart breaking all at the same time.  The journey of a robot who you very well develop feelings for and the tragedy that is around every corner.  Oh the flesh fair.  WOW. What an amazing terrifying experience.  Brutal.  Everything was great about this film.  I really liked it.  I wish Kubrick was alive to see it.  I think he would have been proud.  A must own.   In a future world of runaway global warming and awe-inspiring scientific advances, humans share every aspect of their lives with sophisticated companion robots called Mechas. But when an advanced prototype robot child named David (Haley Joel Osment) is programmed to show unconditional love, his human family isn’t prepared for the consequences. Suddenly, David is on his own in a strange and dangerous world. Befriended by a streetwise Mecha (Jude Law), David embarks on a spectacular quest to discover the startling secret of his own identity.

  • ARTHUR/ARTHUR 2: ON THE ROCKS (BLURAY DOUBLE FEATURE)

I do miss Dudley Moore.  His comedic timing was impeccable and he was just a hell of a lot of fun on screen.  I wish these two films would have more special features but sadly they don’t and the only reason they are releasing these two films now is because of the remake with Russell Brand is coming out this week.  But I must say that these films have such a witty charm that you can’t help but laugh and fall in love with these characters.  Dudley does right! Dudley Moore is Arthur, the irrepressible, irresponsible playboy who faces marriage to a woman he detests to keep his fortune…and then meets the right woman (Liza Minnelli) from the wrong side of the tracks. John Gielgud won an Academy Award® (1981’s Best Supporting Actor) as Arthur’s acerbic valet. “I’ll alert the media,” he says when Arthur announces his intention to take a bath. The title tune also won Oscar® gold for Original Song. A business deal bilks Arthur out of his fortune and he must (egad!) get a job in the sequel Arthur 2 on the Rocks. But laughs are still the common currency as Moore, Minnelli and Gielgud return. Enjoy!

    BABE (BLURAY)

A heartwarming tale about a pig who is raised by a sheep herding dog and develops the skill to sheep herd.  Buy this for your kids. They will love it. One hell of a family film.   A piglet won by Farmer Hoggett as a raffle prize is raised by Fly, the matriarch sheepdog, as one of her own. His owner senses something special in Babe and makes sure he learns sheep herding along with his new brothers. Babe proves so adept, in fact, that Farmer Hoggett enters him in the world sheepdog championship!

  • BATMAN BEYOND: THE RETURN OF JOKER (BLURAY)

I really dig the Batman Beyond world.  And anything with Batman and Joker is pure gold.  Joker might be one of the greatest villains of all time.  In this particular animated film, the Joker seems more sinister and definitely more brutal.  Such great work on the animation and the voice casting with this.  If you are a Batman fan than this is one you won’t want to miss. The greatest villain of all comes out of the past to threaten Batman, Bruce Wayne and all of Gotham City in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, the first feature-length Batman Beyond movie. The sleeker, deadlier and seemingly immortal Clown Prince of Crime is back with his own unique brand of havoc and mayhem. While trying to uncover the Joker’s secrets, the new Batman, Terry McGinnis, discovers the greatest mystery in the life of the original Caped Crusader: What happened the night he fought the Joker for the last time. When Bruce Wayne is almost killed in one of the Joker’s latest attacks, Batman vows to avenge his mentor and put the Joker to rest forever.

  • CASINO JACK (BLURAY)

A decent solid film that was missed by many.  Such a great cast lead by Spacey.  This movie really is a lot of fun.  Spacey stars as Jack Abramoff, the real-life Washington power player who resorted to jaw-dropping levels of fraud and corruption. High-rolling excess and outrageous escapades are all in a day’s work for Abramoff, as he goes to outrageous lengths to promote the Indian gambling industry, earning him the nickname “Casino Jack.” But when Jack and his womanizing protégé Michael Scanlon (Barry Pepper) enlist a dimwitted business partner (Jon Lovitz) for an illegal scheme, they find themselves ensnared in a web of greed and murder that explodes into a worldwide scandal.  Pick this one up.  You won’t be sorry you did.

  • FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (BLURAY+DVD)

It goes without saying, but get this film.  It’s “TRADITION”.  This looks amazing in high-def.  In pre-revolutionary Russia, a poor Jewish peasant must contend with marrying off his three daughters while antisemitic sentiment threatens his home.

  • I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS (BLURAY)

A really good film for Jim Carrey.  I did enjoy this movie.  Two great actors with Carrey and Ewan McGregor lighting up the screen.  Jim Carrey stars in the “outrageously funny” (Rolling Stone) true story of a spectacularly charismatic con man’s journey from small-town businessman to flamboyant white-collar criminal, who repeatedly finds himself in trouble with the law and on the lam – all in the name of love. Costarring Ewan McGregor, I Love You Phillip Morris is an unbelievably true comedy that’s being called “the best performance of Carrey’s career” (Village Voice).  Carrey and Ewan are very charming in this film.  Definitely worth watching.

  • LARS AND THE REAL GIRL (BLURAY)

A wonderful little film with Ryan Gosling who finds love in the most unexpected place.  This film has all sorts of awkward scenes but they have a kind warm gentle feeling to them as well.  I laughed quite a bit in this movie and thought his was such a great concept.  Extraordinary acting all around.  A delusional young guy strikes up an unconventional relationship with a doll he finds on the Internet.

    MYSTIC PIZZA (BLURAY)

Julia Roberts first major role in a feature film.  This is kind of like the movie “Waitress”, but way before.  It is a pretty great film.  I know I wil lcatch shit for that, but a good movie is a good movie.  Glad this is finally on bluray.  For sexy Daisy Araujo (Roberts), her sensible sister Kat (Gish) and their wisecracking friend Jojo (Taylor), the summer after high school is a summer they’ll never forget. Slinging pizza at a local restaurant, the three girls share their hopes, dreams and plans for escaping their small town. And when Daisy is swept off her feet by a wealthy young man named Charles, they all think she’s found her ticket out. But when the girls learn that Charles isn’t the man they think he is, they discover that with friendship and self-respect, not only will they find real happiness (and a way out of Mystic)…they just might find themselves!

THE PEOPLE VS. LARRY FLYNT (BLURAY)

One hell of a film.  Love it or hate the man, you have to give it up for a great story and our first amendment.  Woody Harrelson’s second best role.  He is amazing in this film.  A partially idealized film of the controversial pornography publisher and how he became a defender of free speech for all people.

  • TAXI DRIVER (BLURAY)

One of the best films in the last 50 years.  Right at the top of that list.  Robert De Niro is fucking brilliant in this movie.  I can’t believe this movie has not been released on bluray yet.  This film is unrelenting, unmerciful, brutal, and all kinds of AWESOME.  A MUST OWN MOVIE.  Taxi Driver is the definitive cinematic portrait of loneliness and alienation manifested as violence. It is as if director Martin Scorsese and screenwriter Paul Schrader had tapped into precisely the same source of psychological inspiration (“I just knew I had to make this film,” Scorsese would later say), combined with a perfectly timed post-Watergate expression of personal, political, and societal anxiety. Robert De Niro, as the tortured, ex-Marine cab driver Travis Bickle, made movie history with his chilling performance as one of the most memorably intense and vividly realized characters ever committed to film. Bickle is a self-appointed vigilante who views his urban beat as an intolerable cesspool of blighted humanity. He plays guardian angel for a young prostitute (Jodie Foster), but not without violently devastating consequences. This masterpiece, which is not for all tastes, is sure to horrify some viewers, but few could deny the film’s lasting power and importance.

  • TRON 2D/TRON: LEGACY 3D (BLURAY + BLURAY 3D +DVD + DIGITAL COPY DOUBLE FEATURE)

The original Tron film is hands down a classic.  It is all sorts of badass.  Disney really knew what they were doing with the whole digital age and video games.  The characters in their suits are iconic now.   Tron is a film I can watch over and over again and never get tired of it.  It is great to have it on bluray finally.  Now bundled with this set is the long awaited sequel, Tron: Legacy.  This was a decent film, but it had many many flaws.  Jeff Bridges was great in it, but thats about all I can say, well besides the amazing special effects and some of the Daft Punk score.  But, a lot of the film just wasn’t that good.  It was very cheesy in a lot of places, and the whole evil vs. good Flynn, got tiresome and boring.  I will say that Bridges definitely pulls out the Lebowski in this film all the way through which made me giggle like a little school girl.  But this set is definitely worth getting.  There are a few options to choose from.  You can get either each film separately or buy the double feature which contains five discs or the ultimate gift set edition with collectible packaging which also contains five discs.  Both films are filled to the brim with extras.  Worth getting.  Demo worthy film for audio and video.
