Dec/2017

Hi Bryan Here….

Here’s a review of the Nic Cage film, Drive Angry.  A little late I know, but this film is in the $1 dollar theaters now, and there is something just nostalgic and fun about going to the $1 dollars theaters nowadays.  There are not a lot of those theaters around anymore.  I used to go all the time to them, but that was also when movie tickets cost less than $5 dollars and before stadium seating.  This review comes from another one of our newest contributors to the site, so let’s all give a very warm welcome to FedMex.

A-hoy hoy,

Writing today to tell y’all about a little movie i caught at the dollar theater in the burbs.  Drive Angry 3D.  Ok, so because it was a 3D movie, I had to pay a whopping $2.75 to watch it. That stated, I can say with confidence that it was worth my money, but I can’t completely say with confidence that it was worth my drive to the burbs.

Hi Bryan Here…

I have a fresh review of the new Fast and Furious film, “Fast Five”.  This review comes from one of our newest contributors to the Boomstick site so let us all give a warm welcome to Deserted Samurai.

“Fast Five, or as I like to call it, 2 Fast too Fiveious. If you haven’t been a fan of the more recent Fast & Furious movies then this may not be the movie for you, as it basically has the same feel as the previous film (Fast & Furious). HOWEVER, if you want to see several late model cars ripping up streets and burning more fuel than you could eventually get from Jurassic Park, then believe me when I say that this is the film for you!

Hi Bryan Here…

So far Arnold Schwarzenegger has agreed to do his “Governator” persona for the kids in the form of comics, a tv series, and a movie.  Add to that the most recently announced “Terminator 5 film.  And in the past, Arnold has talked about finding more appropriate roles for himself for an aging action star.  Well according to Vulture, this is happening sooner than later. The new film it looks like Arnold will be attached to is called “Cry Macho”.

So…Record Store Day 2011 has come and gone, which means I’m certain many of you audiophiles have been over-indulging in your recent purchases, perhaps even still scouring eBay to find those limited edition records and singles you missed out on during release day. I’m right there with you, folks. In fact, a week or so later and I’m still enjoying my new music, particularly the stuff I had to additionally buy on eBay.

It was a little disappointing to have to turn to the interwebs two years in a row to get my hands on the limited edition Rolling Stones RSD release, but as is often the case, the time and money is worth it. If you are lucky, sometimes you can find an eBay listing for any of the RSD releases at a reasonable price. I was able to acquire this year’s Rolling Stones single without having to make a deal with a local loan shark, or sell a kidney on the black market.

Hi Bryan Here….

Now you know I am not a fan of Michael Bay nor am I a fan of his version of the Transformers.  I however do love the 80’s cartoon movie of the Transformers.  The last two Transformers films have stunk.  The only thing I liked out of both films was the scene Bernie Mac was in.  That’s it.  And the last Transformers film was a joke.  How did that even get made?  How did studio execs allow that?  Well, sources close to production say this third film will be badass and that everyone on set including Bay knows especially that last film was shit.  SO who knows.  I still think it will be a turd.  Hopefully I will be surprised.  My hopes aren’t high.

Robert Kirkman (author of Walking Dead)  is quite busy these days with all of his comics and the excellent Walking Dead tv show on AMC.  He dedicated some of his time to the first novel for his hit Zombie series “The Walking Dead”.  This looks like it will be a prequel of sorts on how that character of the Governor rose up in power and became who we all know who he became to be.

Bryan Finds A.I. Artificial Intelligence!!! (A Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 26th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

I remember when this film came out and the months that led up to its release.  First off, this was to be Kubrick’s next film following Eyes Wide Shut.  He had storyboards and production art for this film already.  Kubrick wanted to work on A.I. with Spielberg and they went back and forth with each other on who would direct and who would produce.  But sadly, Kubrick passed away before Eyes Wide Shut was released and Kubrick’s wife said in a press conference that Spielberg was going to helm the project himself in tribute to her late husband.  Spielberg pretty much had no option.

The Rebirth Brass Band originated almost 30 years ago (28 to be exact). There has been some shuffling of the members, but as of now, the band consists of 8 talented gentleman: 3 trumpet, 2 drum, and 1 tuba, sax, and trombone player. Each one of them brings something special to the entire sound.

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 12th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

How long have we been hearing about the Crow reboot???  Seems like forever now.  Well for a while, it seems like director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) has been in talks to direct this CROW revamp. Well according to The Hollywood Reporter, this is set in stone.  At some point, Nick Cave (yes that Nick Cave) wrote a screenplay for this re-launch, but has since been held.  Juan has replaced Stephen Norrington (Blade) as director.

Hi Bryan Here….

“The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty” is trying to be remade again.  Spielberg and Ron Howard have tried making this film, but it always ends up in film limbo without a chance of getting off the ground.  Deadline has reported that actor/writer/director Ben Stiller is wanting to remake this classic tale which has been written by Steve Conrad (The Weather Man, The Pursuit of Happyness, The Promotion).

Director Duncan Jones Might Helm Wolverine Sequel!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 12th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…

Seems like the rumor mill is in full force in that director Duncan Jones (Moon, The Source Code) is having meetings about directing the Wolverine sequel.  At one point it was going to be Darren Aronofsky, but he pulled out at the last minute, so now the crew is trying to find someone quickly.  It doesn’t seem like Duncan Jones would want to take the project on meaning it doesn’t look like his cup of tea.  I feel he would want to make his own super hero film by creating a new one and not be tied down by Marvel or the big studio execs on ever single frame.   Who knows?  But our fellow contributor Joel, has a little something to say about this matter below.

Hi Bryan Here….

Director Lars Von Triers is at the directors chair again, and this time it looks like he is taking on the sci-fi disaster epic.  Lars Von Trier has a pretty unique resume.  With Dogville and Antichrist being on there, we can expect a very different take on the sci-fi genre.

Hi Bryan Here….

You have probably heard that they are remaking the AWESOME 80’s vampire horror film, “Fright Night”  about a vampire bachelor who moves in next door to a kid and his mother.  The kid sees the guy next door turn into a vampire and kill people, but nobody believes the kid when he tells them what he saw.  Would you?

Hi Bryan Here….

Director Gavin O’Connor best known for “Miracle” has a new film coming out in September that tackles the MMA/UFC universe starring Tom Hardy (Inception).  IMDB describes the film as: “The youngest son (Hardy) of an alcoholic former boxer (Nolte) returns home, where he’s trained by his father for competition in a mixed martial arts tournament — a path that puts the fighter on a collision corner with his older brother (Edgerton).”

Hi Bryan Here….

“Anonymous” may not be the film you would tie with director Roland Emmerich.  Roland is known for destroying society and the world several times over with such films as: “Independence Day”, “10,000 B.C.”, “The Day After Tomorrow”, “Godzilla”, and “2012”.  Emmerich seems to be going into the intellectual literary universe with “Anonymous”.

Hi Bryan Here…

So I am sure you have all seen the hit documentary “King of Kong” about achieving the high score of Donkey Kong and the battle of good vs. evil.  I am course speaking about Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe.  To quote my earlier article about this matter, …..”since the documentary where Wiebe beat Mitchell(the champ for highest donkey kong score) , and then Mitchell beating Wiebe for the title back, the newcomer, Hank Chien (a plastic surgeon) defeated Mitchell for the title only to have Mitchell take the title back from Chien.  But then Wiebe stole the title from Chien this past September only to be knocked back down to 2nd place by Chien this past January.  WHHHHEEEEWWWW!!!  This new documentary is about Hank Chien.”  DOCTOR KONG: CUTTING UP THE COMPETITION!!!

Hi Bryan Here….

I remember when I was around 11 years old and a friend or two of mine would walk to the local “mom & pop” video store and rent videos during the summer and have movie marathons all day.  Now we were very avid horror and exploitation fans.  Even at that early age.  We picked up Troma films, Argento films, early Raimi films, and pretty much any title that had explicit violence, horror, or nudity.  “Hobo With A Shotgun” is pure exploitation “over the top” badass fun.

Hi Bryan Here….

The past two Batman films have been filmed in the Chicago area and they have looked phenomenal there.  It actually looked like what I picture Gotham to be.  It was beautiful and haunting all at the same time.  Now, Nolan has announced that he will film the third Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises” in Pittsburgh.

Keanu Reeves Says “Bill & Ted 3” Coming Soon!!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 5th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Keanu Reeves has let the “cat out of the bag”.  He has confirmed that the “Bill and Ted 3” script is about six weeks away from being finished and that they have original Bill and Ted writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon back writing the third script.  This is just fucking awesome. I am so excited for a third Bill and Ted film, but the first two films were so good and still hold up to this day.  I would hate for a third one that didn’t work since the first two films were pretty much perfect.  Check out the interview with Keanu below from MTV.

Director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) is hard at work on his new film called “Immortals” which brings the myth of Theseus to the silver screen.  IMDB says “Greek warrior Theseus battles against imprisoned titans.”  This looks a lot like 300, but with Tarsem’s stamp on it, I think it is gong to be one hello  of a beautiful and violent film.
