Faster is for those of us that like violent, fast paced, intense revenge flicks. This is the darkest, most intense Dwayne Johnson film ever. The plot is simple, a man is hellbent on avenging the death of his brother. He is a guided missile. Dwayne Johnson perfectly executes his role. The movie manages to be emotional, but never sappy. The plot isn’t so thick to ever get in the way, but it’s never so thin that you don’t understand why the characters are doing what they’re doing.

I’ve loved other revenge flicks like Kill Bill or The Crow and those protagonists are comparatively long winded. There’s something special in watching Dwayne Johnson being let out of prison and every act, every step is taken to kill the first name on his list. No hesitation, no words. Eye contact, recognition, draw, fire.

By the second kill, my reaction was simple: this is so badass. Thea action was very well done, the flashbacks and story elements were well done. The score was phenomenal. There were so many incredibly tense scenes, I can’t remember many films that had me that on edge so frequently. The only thing really holding this movie back from a perfect rating and that would be the scenes where the cops were interacting. It wasn’t that they put on bad performances, but their dialog was comparatively flat and I just didn’t really care about them. This movie is a reverse horror movie. The monster’s victims are not capricious teens but criminals. And they know he’s coming for them.
