I really feel so bad for Terry Gilliam.  He is one of my favorite directors, but it seems with every movie he tries to make, things happen that prevent him from making gold.

With his latest almost film “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” which he has been trying to make for about a decade now, all the financing has fallen through.  Even with Johnny Depp starring in the picture.  The whole thing was documented in the 2002 documentary “Lost in La Mancha”.

So Gilliam returned to the project only to say about a month ago at a film festival: “The financing collapsed about a month and a half ago. I shouldn’t be here. The plan was to be shooting ‘Quixote’ right now.”

He went on to say : “Robert Duvall is Quixote, Ewan McGregor is also there, and we are looking for new financing right now. Don Quixote gives me something to look forward to, always. Maybe the most frightening thing is to actually make the film.”

So after this tragic news, there was a proposed 3-D conversion for his amazing 1980’s adventure film “Time Bandits”.  He had this to say about it: “We are in discussions to make a 3D version of the film ‘[Time] Bandits.’ That will not change anything in the film itself will remain the same and if I think it serves as some passages in ‘Alice [In Wonderland’], the 3D should work well. Anyway, I’ll have fun with it!”

Seriously Terry Gilliam knows what he is doing.  If you don’t believe me then watch ” Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” or “Brazil” or “Time Bandits”.

With the sad news of Quixote, we might get something awesome.  A restored Time Bandits film and that can be amazing.
